About the Role
We are seeking a System Administrator to maintain, upgrade, and manage our software, hardware, and networks. Resourcefulness is a vital skill in this role, as you will be required to diagnose and resolve problems quickly. Additionally, you should possess the patience to effectively communicate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams and users. Your overarching goal is to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our technology infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Install and configure software and hardware
- Manage network servers and technology tools
- Set up accounts and workstations
- Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements
- Troubleshoot issues and outages
- Ensure security through access controls, backups and firewalls
- Upgrade systems with new releases and models
- Develop expertise to train staff on new technologies
- Build an internal wiki with technical documentation, manuals and IT policies
Requirements
- Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator, or a similar role
- Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN), and patch management
- Knowledge of system security (e.g., intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
- Ability to create scripts in Python, Perl, or another language
- Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms
- Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
- Excellent communication skills
- BSc/Diploma/BE in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline; professional certification (e.g., Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) is a plus
- Experience with or knowledge of programming languages and operating systems; current equipment and technologies; enterprise backup and recovery procedures; system performance-monitoring tools; active directories; virtualization; HTTP traffic; content delivery; and caching
- Experience in project management, application design and integration, and cloud computing (specifically Amazon Cloud Computing, Microsoft Azure)
- Expertise in creating, analyzing, and repairing large-scale distributed systems Creating volumes, assigning to servers, and remote replication
This job might be for you if
- You enjoy performing server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring, ensuring system architecture components work together seamlessly
- You have experience monitoring datacenter health using preexisting management tools and respond to hardware issues as they arise; help build, test, and maintain new servers as needed
- You are willing to maintain internal infrastructure requirements including, laptop and desktop computers, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, phones, security updates; support internet, intranet, LANs, WANs, and network segments
- Like to interact with the help desk and other teams to assist in troubleshooting, identify root cause, and provide technical support when needed
- Perform routine/scheduled audits of the systems, including all backups
